Always On His Side

Love, lies and juicy fights. This is the relationship of not just Chuck and Blair, but of the entire cast of Gossip Girl. All 58 of them. Season 3 Episode 3, “The Lost Boy” really tugged at my heart strings. Not because anything particularly sad happened, more because Chuck looked extra dreamy. This episode marks an event that will often repeat itself throughout the series, Blair and Chuck go head to head for their own personal gains. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with a little friendly competition amongst lovers, right? Wrong. When Chuck and Blair go head to head everyone better stay out of their way because odds are there will be casualties. I swear, it’s like these people can’t have anything go their way without it involving ruining someone else’s life. I would love to be Chuck or Blair, but would hate to be someone around them in a quarrel.

This little quarrel in particular was over winning an auction for a photograph that would make two different people very happy and in turn be very favorable to Chuck and Blair respectively. Chuck wanted the photo to impress a wealthy businessman and Blair was going to use the photo to get into someone else’s good graces. Of course, obtaining the photograph was not just to make someone happy, that would be too easy and way out of character. Blair and Chuck would never do anything nice for someone else if it didn’t also benefit them.

Anyways, this episode, like most tried my patience. Blair and Chuck were a roller coaster. First they hate each other, then they love each other, then they hate each other again. After Blair and Chuck were done being rivals and both lost the auction for the photo to Serena, they plotted together to take Carter Basin down. I do notice that when Chuck and Blair are fighting, I tend to take Chuck’s side, just because I love him. However, even though I was irritated at the both of them in this episode, it did not change my feelings towards them that much.
