Okay, so there are way too many characters and way too much drama to dive deep into the depths of Gossip Girl. I’m serious, if you blink you miss a divorce, secret baby and a drug addiction. It is crazy. So for the sake of time (and my sanity), I’m going to try to stick as close to my personal vice, Chuck and Blair, as possible.
This particular duo has done many things for me. They have completely fucked up my ideals and standards of a functional, loving relationship, and I’ll probably die alone because no one will love me like Chuck Bass loves Blair. However, they have also served as a driving force in keeping my mental sanity. I love them, I hate them, I wish they would just talk to each other about things instead of jumping to conclusions and abusing their incredible privilege for vindictive endeavors. But, no one ever listens to me on that show.
To be honest, I think I only love Blair so much because she’s in love with Chuck Bass, and I love Chuck Bass for how much he loves Blair. Fun, right? No. Blair and Chuck are terrible people. Their only redeeming quality? They love each other in a way I never even thought was possible! I haven’t seen a love so pure and magical since Twilight.
Alas, love does not always prevail and they let their petty ways get in between them. Every episode provides new obstacles. Season 3 Episode 2 “The Freshmen,” Chuck and Blair find themselves in a fight not because of their own account, but because of Chucks fight with Serena. I swear, with these people they can never just be simple friends, there is always something going on. The need for self sabotage is amazing.
Anyways, Serena, Blair’s best friend and Chuck’s stepsister, gets into a fight with Chuck over God knows what and Serena seeks revenge with one of Chucks enemies. While all this is happening, Blair is almost only concerned with her own social status in her new college. She is always the Queen Bee, that’s a given, but she finds herself struggling to rule while she’s in a place of individual thinkers, kind of.
